Dallas Area Newborn Photographer * Baby Mills came to see me for his newborn session at just 20 days old, and let me tell you… he had plans of his own. He was the sweetest little guy but wanted to party a little! Newborn photos are usually done when babies are 6-14 days of age. The younger they are the sleepier they are and allow us, newborn photographers, to pose them in all those sweet newborn poses! As a Dallas area newborn photographer, Im absolutely ok with photographing older babies as well! I get lots of older babies in the studio and sometimes they sleep better than a two week old! Usually, babies around one month start to become more alert and also start to not fit in newborn size. This means babies wouldn’t fit on newborn sized props as well. Haha, I also feel silly calling a 3 week old an older baby, lol! Im speaking from the newborn posing perspective. Sweet baby Mills was a perfect newborn. Newborn stage is considered all the way up to 3 months.

Not every newborn session is filled with sleepy, curled-up poses—and that’s okay. Mills was not a very sleepy baby for much of his session, curious about the world and not too interested in missing a single moment. He let us know pretty quickly that he preferred movement over stillness and had no intention of settling into a deep sleep. Sessions like this can feel a little unpredictable, but they often turn into some of the most memorable ones.
Of course, there were breaks for soothing, feeding, and plenty of patience. That’s all part of the process when working with newborns—especially those who are a little more alert and aware. It’s never about perfection; it’s about preserving this fleeting stage in an honest, beautiful way.
Momma and Grandma were amazing throughout the entire session, staying relaxed and trusting the process, which makes such a difference. And in the end, we created a gallery full of genuine moments that truly reflect who Mills was at this stage.
